Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Bilingual Communications Specialist, helps to lead communications, public relations and marketing activities in Quebec, and the rest of French Canada. As a member of the Public Relations team, the incumbent is responsible for planning, positioning and creation of all public and member-facing communications content, including presentations, scripts, speeches, articles, advertorials and other content in French, as well as managing translation services – ensuring that the quality and tone of translations will resonate with French speaking members.

The incumbent provides strategic communications counsel and support to the Executive and Management team and demonstrates leadership as the French communications representative on cross-functional project teams as required, providing planning, strategy, positioning, writing, editing, and proofreading expertise to approved communication plans. They can identify emerging issues that may affect the organization and can interpret complex information to support issues management.

Key Responsibilities:

French Member Communications:

  • Continuously improves the organization’s French language communications.
  • Lead market research initiatives in Quebec.
  • Editing/Proofreading French language content.

Education and Compliance Materials:

  • Edits, proofreads and provides strategic communications advice on the organizations’ French language “education publications” and “compliance tools and resources”.

Communications and Marketing Materials:

  • Copywrites and/or updates, edits, proofreads, and provides strategic communications advice.
  • Crafts communication project plans, scripts, speeches and presentations.
  • Supports the development of member welcome, renewal, cancellation and expiry messaging and edits, proofreads and provides strategic communications advice on such projects, as needed.
  • Supports the development of new member onboarding and member acquisition scripts and presentations and edits, proofreads and provides strategic communications advice on such projects, as needed.

External Communications:

  • Writes and/or updates, edits, proofreads, and provides strategic communications advice related to advertising content and advertorials for media properties.
  • Resources and Accounting channels in Quebec.
  • Participates in content updates to the organization’s website.
  • Ensures the organization’s key messages are consistently reflected in all media

Public Relations and Social Media:

  • Help to lead French language communications, PR and marketing strategies. Responds to and schedules press inquiries.
  • Develops, edits and publishes news releases and other external content in French.
  • Contributes content for the organization’s social media platform and accounts, including Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Serves as spokesperson, as required, for media interviews, event presentations, etc.

Project Management:

  • Writes, edits, and/or and provides strategic communications advice on French language communication plans, project proposals, and critical paths.
  • Leads the writing, editing, proofreading, design, approvals, and translation of communications/marketing materials.
  • Helps to lead communications, marketing, public relations and social media activities for key projects and events in Quebec and/or other French markets.
  • Helps identify, recommend and implement tactics to leverage key communications and marketing initiatives and messages across channels and platforms (i.e., email, external media, social media, websites and publications, as appropriate).
  • Manages relationships with key French language/Quebec consultants.

Skills Required

  • Professional writing and proofreading ability in both French and English.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of communications and marketing experience in a French or bilingual role.
  • Post-secondary education – University degree in Communication and/or Journalism and/or Public Relations diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Agency experience is an asset.
  • Some experience working with online technologies (i.e., HTML, e-mail management systems, content management systems, etc.) is an asset.
  • Some experience working with social media community management and reporting platforms (e.g. SproutSocial, Hootsuite) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Professional writing and proofreading ability in both French and English.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of communications and marketing experience in a French or bilingual role.
  • Post-secondary education – University degree in Communication and/or Journalism and/or Public Relations diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution.
